Sea Trials of first SIGMA 10514 PKR frigate for Indonesian navy
The first of up to two SIGMA SIGMA 10514 Perusak Kawal Rudal (PKR) guided-missile frigate for the Indonesian Navy has successfully completed its sea trials as of 7 September. This is a major milestone for a project for which the first steel was cut in January 2014.
According to specifications provided by PT PAL, the PKR frigate has a standard displacement of approximately 2,400 tonnes, can accommodate a crew of 120, and it can hold a 10-tonne helicopter on its flight deck. The platform has a top speed of 28 kt, a maximum range of 5,000 n miles at 14 kt, and a standard range of 4,000 n miles at 18 kt.
weapons include an Oto Melara 76 mm main gun, launchers for MBDA MM40 Exocet Block II anti-ship missiles, six (two triple) Eurotorp B515 torpedo launchers, the Rheinmetall Defence Millennium 35 mm close-in weapon system, and a 12-cell vertical launch system that can deploy the MBDA VL-MICA surface-to-air missiles.
The weapon systems will be completed with a modified version of Thales' TACTICOS combat management system. The platform is on track for delivery to the TNI-AL in January 2017.
The Sigma-class frigate is a Dutch-built family of modular naval vessels, of frigate size.
The basic design of the Sigma Patrol Series can vary as the hull segments are designed as components. Ships can vary in the number of hull segments and in the order in which they are placed. Sigma stands for Ship Integrated Geometrical Modularity Approach. The ship's main dimensions are named in the types itself, SIGMA 9113 stands for 91 metres (298 ft 7 in) long and with a beam of 13 metres (42 ft 8 in). Likewise, the SIGMA 10513, is 105 metres (344 ft 6 in) in length with a beam of 13 meters.
The design was derived from the earlier High Speed Displacement hull form by MARIN Teknikk AS in the 1970s.
