DARPA's Ground X-Vehicle Technology (GXV-T) Video

Image
Today’s ground-based armored fighting vehicles are better protected than ever, but face a constantly evolving threat: weapons increasingly effective at piercing armor. While adding more armor has provided incremental increases in protection, it has also hobbled vehicle speed and mobility and ballooned development and deployment costs. To help reverse this trend, DARPA’s Ground X-Vehicle Technology (GXV-T) program recently awarded contracts to eight organizations. Darpa is exploring a variety of potentially groundbreaking technologies, all of which are designed to improve vehicle mobility, vehicle survivability and crew safety and performance without piling on armor. DARPA’s performers for GXV-T are helping defy the ‘more armor equals better protection’ axiom that has constrained armored ground vehicle design for the past 100 years, and are paving the way toward innovative, disruptive vehicles for the 21st Century and beyond. DARPA has awarded contracts for GXV-T to the follo...

Rheinmetall Driver Training Simulator Leopard 2 – DTS

Image
Rheinmetall - The DTS of Rheinmetall is used to train drivers of the Main Battle Tank (MBT) Leopard 1 A5 and the Armoured Infantry Vehicle (AIFV) CV 9030N in a synthetic environment on simulated road and cross-country terrain. There is also a special emphasis on snow and ice driving, for which it is difficult and dangerous to train with real tanks. The DTS comprises for each type of vehicle two training stations which include a replica drivers cabin with the original interior and a motion system with six degrees of freedom to simulate the real driving behaviour.

DARPA ACTUV and TALONS Joint Sea Testing

Image
DARPA’s Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) program has developed and built a technology demonstration vessel that is currently undergoing open-water testing off the coast of California and recently set sail with its first payload: a prototype of a low-cost, elevated sensor mast developed through the Agency’s Towed Airborne Lift of Naval Systems (TALONS) research effort. ACTUV seeks to lay the technical foundation for an entirely new class of ocean-going vessel—one able to traverse thousands of kilometers over the open seas for months at a time, without a single crew member aboard. Potential missions include submarine tracking and countermine activities. Towed behind boats or ships, TALONS could persistently carry intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR), and communications payloads of up to 150 pounds between 500 and 1,500 feet in altitude—many times higher than current ships’ masts—and greatly extend the equipment’s range and effective...

GroundPoint- Israel Aerospace Industries system

Image
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) is introducing a new, extremely accurate, geo-location targeting system for ground forces. The system can pinpoint targets for GPS-guided munitions and improve the target accuracy of statistical rounds while minimizing collateral damage. GroundPoint is designed for ground observers such as Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) teams, forward aerial observers, Special Forces and control-room personnel.  GroundPoint, a first of its kind, featured at the 2015 Annual Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Meeting & Exposition in Washington DC, October 12-14, (IAI North America - Booth #2039). GroundPoint has already gained field experience achieving geo-location of targets with an accuracy of 2-3 meters in a range of up to 20 Km. The system is available in several configurations: as a targeting computer which can be easily integrated with most ground observation systems; as an "add-on" kit for tripods with binoculars; or as a...

Japan Ground & Air Self Defense Forces Parade 2016 : Full Military Assets Segment The Japan Self-Defense Forces, or JSDF, occasionally referred to as JSF, JDF, or SDF, are the unified military forces of Japan that were established in 1954, and are controlled by the Ministry of Defense. In recent years they have been engaged in international peacekeeping operations including the UN peacekeeping. Recent tensions, particularly with North Korea, have reignited the debate over the status of the JSDF and its relation to Japanese society. New military guidelines, announced in December 2010, will direct the JSDF away from its Cold War focus on the former Soviet Union to a focus on China, especially regarding the territorial dispute over the Senkaku Islands.

Russia has unveiled unique unmanned robotic guardian system for guard the underground silos of the Strategic Missile Forces (SMF). The system was developed to boost the security of stationary military sites and is set to be deployed to guard the underground silos of the Strategic Missile Forces (SMF). “A state-of-the-art robotized guarding system for SMF stationary facilities has passed military tests in the Kozelsk Missile Formation [Kaluga Region, south of Moscow],” the Defense Ministry reported. The remotely-controlled hardware is equipped with electro-optical and radar reconnaissance gadgets. The new system can fire bullets and grenades in both automatic and semi-automatic mode at targets 400 meters away. The military noted that the system did well in defending the silo launch site at the testing range from simulated attacks by “saboteurs”. The robotic system which has been tested and is now ready for action was engineered to make it ready for deployment in less than 30 s...

IAI unveils "TERRA"

Image
Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. unveiled a new dual-band strategic defense radar that autonomously searches for, detects and tracks long-range ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and even satellites. Dubbed Terra, the system mates IAI's Ultra radar — a very powerful and long-range UHF-band search radar presented at last summer’s Paris Air Show — with a new S-Band active electronic scanned array (AESA) fire-control radar called Spectra.  Designed to search, detect, track and target multiple threats simultaneously, the new Terra system is operational with at least one customer nation. In a Nov. 10 interview, the Elta executive said inherent capabilities as well as redundancies designed into the integrated, dual-band Terra system offer unique advantages over single-band radars. “It’s hard to gain very long-range early warning with very accurate tracking in a single band. This combined system provides the range, accuracy and multi-target tracking capability into a single ...
