It also has 160 souls aboard, with a very efficient cafeteria to keep them fed even while the vessel is taking fire. Philippines Closes P15.7B Deal with South Korea for Navy Ships

The Philippines has signed a contract with South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for the building of two new warships in a P15.7-billion deal, the single most expensive project approved by the Duterte administration to date. In a statement, the Navy said Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana led the contract signing on Monday for the construction and delivery of the new frigates. The notice of award was received by HHI last month with the amount of $336,912,000 or equivalent to P15,744,571,584. The frigates, each displacing 2,600 tons, will be propelled by a combined diesel and diesel system that will give it speeds of up to 25 knots, according to a news release on HHI’s website. Measuring 107 meters in length, the frigates will be armed with missiles, torpedoes, guns and electronic sensors that will allow it to conduct anti-air, anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare, the HHI release added. Future Independence-class littoral combat ship USS Gabrielle Giffords (LCS 10) successfully completed its acceptance trials Nov. 18.While underway in the Gulf of Mexico, dolphins appeared alongside the ship. The trials consisted of a series of in-port and underway demonstrations for the Navy's Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV).  Acceptance trials are the last significant milestone before delivery of the ship to the Navy. During the trials, the Navy conducted comprehensive tests of the LCS intended to demonstrate the performance of the propulsion plant, ship handling, and auxiliary systems.  While underway, the ship successfully performed launch and recovery operations of the 11-meter, rigid-hull inflatable boat; surface and air self-defense, detect-to-engage exercises; and demonstrations of the ship's maneuverability to include a full power run in excess of 40 knots. Scorpene® 1000 is designed for navies needing a submarine optimised for littoral missions, whilst maintaining the necessary strike force to protect national interests and enforce sovereignty in blue waters. The Scorpène-class submarines are a class of diesel-electric attack submarines jointly developed by the French Direction des Constructions Navales (DCN) and the Spanish company Navantia, and now by DCNS. It features diesel propulsion and an additional air-independent propulsion (AIP). The Chilean Navy ordered two Scorpène-class boats, which replaced two Oberon-class submarines retired by the Chilean Navy. A26 Submarine

A26 is the project name of the next generation of submarines developed by Kockums for the Swedish Navy. First planned at the beginning of the 1990s, the project was called "U-båt 2000" and was intended to be ready by the late 1990s or early 2000. With the end of the Cold War the naval threat from the Soviet Union disappeared and the new submarine class was deemed unnecessary. The project lay dormant for years until the mid-2000s when the need for a replacement for the Södermanland class became apparent. Originally the Scandinavian countries had intended to collaborate on the Viking class, but Denmark's withdrawal from submarine operations meant that Kockums proceeded on their own. The new submarine project was intended to be an improved version of the Gotland class, which will be considered obsolete around 2015–17 according to Per Skantz, development co-ordinator at the Marine headquarters in Stockholm.
