The Mikoyan MiG-29M (Russian: Микоян МиГ-33, NATO reporting name "Fulcrum-E") is a fighter aircraft that was developed as an advanced variant of the Mikoyan MiG-29 (NATO: "Fulcrum") fighter. Formerly named "MiG-33", it was originally designed by Mikoyan in the Soviet Union during the mid-1980s. MiG-29SMT (Product 9.17) is an upgrade package of the first-generation MiG-29s (9.12 to 9.13) containing many enhancements intended for the MiG-29M. Additional fuel tanks in a further enlarged spine provide a maximum flight range of 2,100 km on internal fuel. The cockpit has an enhanced HOTAS design, two 152 × 203 mm (6 × 8 inch) colour liquid crystal MFDs and two smaller monochrome LCDs. The Indian Air Force (IAF; IAST: Bhāratīya Vāyu Senā) is the air arm of the Indian armed forces. It is the world's fourth largest air force in terms of both personnel and aircraft. Its primary responsibility is to secure Indian airspace and to conduct aerial warfare during a conflict. It was officially established on 8 October 1932 as an auxiliary air force of the British Empire and the prefix Royal was added in 1945 in recognition of its services during World War II. After India became independent from the United Kingdom in 1947, the Royal Indian Air Force served the Dominion of India, with the prefix being dropped when India became a republic in 1950. Since independence, the IAF has been involved in four wars with neighbouring Pakistan and one with the People's Republic of China. The KC-46A Pegasus tanker is changing the game in air refueling. A revolutionary air refueling operator station (AROS), that displays images in super-high definition, monochromatic 3D, is enabling the US Air Force to conduct refueling like never before. The Boeing KC-46 Pegasus is a military aerial refueling and strategic military transport aircraft developed by Boeing from its 767 jet airliner. In February 2011, the tanker was selected by the United States Air Force (USAF) as the winner in the KC-X tanker competition to replace older KC-135 Stratotankers. The first 18 combat-ready aircraft are scheduled to be delivered to the U.S. Air Force in early 2018 under the terms of the development contract. The demo might seem spectacular to the general public, but in fact contains standard F-16 manoeuvres which are flown during practise sessions as operational missions. The only difference between real life operations and this demo is that these manoeuvres are flown in a smooth pattern and at very low altitude. This does mean the demo puts a lot of G forces on the pilot which limits the demo to a maximum of around 15 minutes, giving the audience an overview of the F-16s manoeuvrability and the skills of all F-16 pilots in the Belgian Air Force F-16 Solo Display Team .

Russia’s cutting-edge Sukhoi Su-35 Fighters arrive at Karelia Base

Russia’s Air Base in Karelia has received a squadron of the latest Sukhoi Su-35S fighters. The state of the art planes will be deployed less than 200km away from the Finnish border to protect Russia’s northwestern frontier. Four jets and their crews traveled over 8,000 km from the Far East, refueling three times at airfields in the Central and Eastern military districts, the Russian Defense Ministry announced. The planes are now getting ready for deployment. The Su-35 is a multidimensional high-maneuverable fighter of 4++ generation with thrust-vectoring modules. The Sukhoi Su-35 remains the top Russian air fighter in service today. Its technical characteristics allow the plane to evade missiles or dogfight at close ranges. Since the rollout in May, we have achieved major milestones and now we can add one more – the taxi testing. So, let’s roll! Gripen E is an enhanced version of the Gripen C/D multi-role aircraft. The new fighter aircraft, whose initial delivery is scheduled for 2018, will replace the Swiss Air Force's fleet of Northrop F-5E/F Tiger. Saab performs modifications and related construction works for Gripen E by using components supplied by Swiss companies. Saab started construction of the pre-production Gripen E test aircraft, designated as 39-8, in July 2013. Initial construction works involve assembly of the aircraft's front fuselage, while the payload mounting works are carried out by RAUG. Boeing Unveils EA-18G Growler for Australia

Australia joins the United States as the only two nations to fly the airborne electronic attack platform. The Growler’s radar-jamming devices deceive and frustrate enemy forces and allow strike jets to carry out their missions undetected. The Australian Growler recently made its first flight in St. Louis. In 2008 the Australian Government requested export approval from the US government to purchase up to six EA-18Gs, which would be part of the order for 24 F/A-18F Super Hornets. On 27 February 2009, Defence Minister Joel Fitzgibbon announced that 12 of the 24 Super Hornets on order would be wired on the production line for future fit-out as EA-18Gs. The additional wiring would cost A$35 million. The final decision on conversion to EA-18Gs, at a cost of A$300 million, was to be announced in March 2012. The T-X program has been established to enable the United States Air Force to buy a new two-seat jet trainer for fast-jet training to replace the Northrop T-38 Talon; the average age of the T-38 fleet is over 43.5 years. About 350 aircraft are expected to be ordered to replace the T-38, but further purchases could push the overall purchase to over 1,000.[2] The notional in-service date for the replacement trainer was 2017, but shrinking budgets have pushed initial operating capability to around 2023. The program is expected to begin in FY 2017. Boeing T-X is an all-new advanced pilot training system designed specifically for the U.S. Air Force training mission. The United States Marine Corps is facing a dilemma. There are not enough combat ready fighter jets for their pilots around the world. Boeing’s answer to this problem is the C+ Program. The program will take 30 retired F/A-18C Hornets and upgrade them to the most state-of-the-art platform, creating the F/A-18C+. The jets are trucked from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base to Cecil Field near Jacksonville, Fla. Davis-Monthan is the largest military aircraft storage center in the world. The Navy’s premiere fighter pilot training school, TOPGUN has a long history training some of the U.S. Navy’s greatest aviators. The United States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program (SFTI program), more popularly known as Topgun or TOPGUN, teaches fighter and strike tactics and techniques to selected Naval Aviators and Naval flight officers, who return to their operating units as surrogate instructors. It began as the United States Navy Fighter Weapons School, established on March 3, 1969, at the former Naval Air Station Miramar, north of San Diego, California. In 1996, the School was merged into the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center at NAS Fallon, Nevada. During the halt in the bombing campaign against North Vietnam (in force from 1968 until the early 1970s), Topgun established itself as a center of excellence in fighter doctrine, tactics and training. Su-30SM are air superiority jets of the 4++ generation that combine functions of a fighter and a bomber. They are produced in Irkutsk in southern Siberia. “The handover ceremony took place at the airfield of the Irkutsk aviation factory where pilots of the Russian Navy’s maritime combat aviation corps received another batch of Su-30SM jets,” Сapt. 1st Rank Drygalo told reporters. Russia’s Defense Ministry has commissioned the Irkutsk plant to build 88 fighters for the Aerospace Forces and 28 fighters for the naval aviation by 2018. Navy commander-in-chief Vladimir Korolyov said on November 22 that the aviation branch of the Navy would get six Su-30SMs by the end of this year.

Fighter pilot is a military aviator trained to engage in air-to-air, and often air-to-ground combat while in the cockpit of a fighter aircraft. Fighter pilots undergo specialized training in aerial warfare and dogfighting (close range aerial combat). A fighter pilot with at least five air-to-air kills becomes known as an ace. Modern medium and long range active radar homing and semi-active radar homing missiles can be fired at targets outside or beyond visual range. However, when a pilot is dogfighting at short-range, his position relative to the opponent is decidedly important. Outperformance of another pilot and that pilot's aircraft is critical to maintain the upper-hand. A common saying for dogfighting is "lose sight, lose fight". If one pilot had a greater missile range than the other, he would choose to fire his missile first, before being in range of the enemy's missile.
